March 14, 2026 – The Office of the Dean of Student Affairs of Iligan Medical Center College held a successful Leadership Training for the Student Body Organization (SBO). The goal of the exercise was to help student leaders and advisers become better leaders by equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to be responsible leaders, manage organizations, and govern. The training’s main goals were to improve leadership and governance skills, help student leaders write or update their organization’s Constitution and By-Laws (CBL), and help different student groups plan activities for the 2026–2027 school year that are relevant, meaningful, and long-lasting.
The training covered several crucial issues related to being a good leader and managing an organization responsibly. Transformational Leadership and Student Governance were two of the most important topics. They talked about how student leaders may inspire and guide their members toward common goals. Participants were also taught about the duties and responsibilities of key offices, such as presidents, vice presidents, secretaries, treasurers, and auditors. This stressed the need to be accountable and do their jobs correctly. Other subjects covered include Ethical and Accountable Leadership, Communication and Decision-Making in Organizations, and the importance of delegating tasks and working as a team to keep a student group productive and cohesive. The workshop also talked about Organizational Governance and Strategic Activity Planning. It stressed the importance of an organization having a well-written Constitution and By-Laws as its foundation.
The training also included talks about how to do basic bookkeeping for student groups. These talks focused on the purpose of bookkeeping, the fundamental records needed, and how to distinguish between common accounting terms used in managing an organization’s finances. To help them remember what they learned, the participants took part in a workshop where they worked together to develop suggested school activities for each college department, reviewed their Constitution and By-Laws, and learned how to liquidate finances properly. Even though there wasn’t much time, the leadership training went well and was a valuable learning experience for everyone involved. It made them all more ready to lead and run their own student groups well.
