IMCC Center for Research and Development Leads the Way in AI Innovation with “Navigating
the AI Frontier” Seminar
In a bold step toward academic excellence in the digital age, the IMCC Center for Research and Development successfully hosted a comprehensive seminar titled “Navigating the AI Frontier” last January 30, 2026.
Guided by the theme “Prompt Engineering: Power in Every Word,” the day-long event—running from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM—drew nearly 80 participants. The diverse assembly included college deans, faculty members, administrative heads, and eager students from various departments, all gathering to master the art of artificial intelligence.
Expert Insights: Mastering the Prompt
The morning kicked off with Joeselito Lawrence Ortiz, Dean of the College of Computer Studies (CCS). Ortiz laid the groundwork by introducing the technical nuances of agentic prompt formulation, teaching attendees that the quality of AI output is directly tied to the specificity and clarity of the user’s input.
Following the technical foundation, Johnnel S. Cagod, MPN, Head of the Department of Student Affairs, pivoted to the human element. He emphasized how precision in prompt design is crucial for formal communication across professional disciplines.
AI in the Classroom and Management
Education took center stage as Ian Raumel Kuinisala (CCS Faculty) demonstrated the transformative power of AI in pedagogy. Kuinisala showcased how AI can streamline the creation of diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments. He further captivated the audience by generating high-quality media content, illustrating AI’s role in modern instructional design.
Bridging the gap between technology and daily operations, Marlou Xerkxex Rentucan, Research Management Information Officer, facilitated hands-on activities. His session proved how structured prompts can optimize Management Information Systems (MIS) and simplify routine administrative tasks.
The Gold Standard: Research and Ethics
The afternoon focused on high-level academic application. Dr. Helen S. Tejero, Research Director, provided a deep dive into using AI for literature reviews and idea generation, while Dr. Mark Alipio, Dean for Academic Affairs, concluded the lecture series with a critical discussion on aligning AI-assisted research with the rigorous publication standards of reputable journals.
Voices of the Participants
The seminar’s highlight was an interactive sharing session that bridged generations:
· Student Perspectives: Representatives from the Basic Education Department (BED) opened the floor, sharing their excitement about how AI tools are personalizing their learning experiences.
· Technical Deep-Dives: Winona Mei Reyes, RMT, offered a comparative analysis of different AI models, reminding participants of the necessity of cross-verifying AI results.
· The Ethical Framework: Elisa Victoria D. Tiongko, RMT, introduced the “CRITICAL” framework, a checklist designed to ensure AI remains a tool for truth:
Cross-check facts | Recognize limitations | Identify the source | Triangulate information | Interrogate assumptions | Clarity and ambiguity awareness | Assess objectivity | Look for logic.
A Commitment to Excellence
This seminar reinforces IMCC’s dedication to equipping its community with the skills of tomorrow. By fostering a culture of ethical and critical AI use, the Center for Research and Development ensures that IMCC remains at the forefront of instructional and research innovation.
As the event concluded, the sentiment across the hall was clear: when it comes to preparing for the future of technology and education…
IMCC, Absolutely the right choice!
