

Last October 23-25, 2025, Iligan Medical Center College-College of Medical Technology department, represented by the College OIC-Dean, Ms. Elisa Victoria D. Tiongko, RMT and one of their faculty members, Ms. Winona Mei A. Reyes, RMT attended the 55th PASMETH Annual National Convention Emerald celebration and 2nd PASMETH ASEAN Association of School of Medical Technology International forum, held last October 23-25, 2025 at the Purple Owl Complex, MCU, Manila. This event was attended by the deans and faculty members of schools offering Medtech courses from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Day one of the convention focused on the official opening and establishing the foundation of Medical Technology (MedTech) education. After the morning formalities, which included a Thanksgiving Mass, the President’s address, and a Keynote Speech by Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” T. Go, the afternoon shifted to scientific discussions. The sessions were centered on integrating modern practices and professional development into the curriculum, starting with the role of Artificial Intelligence in advancing MedTech education. Subsequent talks detailed the practical application of theory through Clinical Internship, the importance of Mentorship Programs and Reflective Practice for professional growth, and the benefits of partnerships in strengthening clinical training.
The second day expanded the discussion to global standards, curriculum innovation, and career trajectories. Morning sessions explored essential concepts like knowledge transfer through mentorship, the significance of Interprofessional Education (IPE) for fostering teamwork, and developing an innovative curriculum that integrates global health at every level. Following the organizational Election, the afternoon tackled strategic planning for the allied health profession and the timely issue of infodemics and misinformation in public health crises. The day concluded with the PRC Hour focusing on Career Pathing from a laboratory scientist to a specialist by Hon. Leila Lany M. Florento, Member PRB for Medical Technology – Professional Regulation Commission, followed by the CHED Hour by Dr. Jose Jurel M. Nuevo, Chair – Technical Committee for Medical Technology Education -CHED and the current PASMETH President, on aligning the curriculum with international standards.
The final day heavily emphasized internationalization, emerging technologies, and future-proofing MedTech education. The morning featured simultaneous international and scientific sessions focusing on expanding professional networks through collaboration, strengthening education via international partnerships (e.g., ISO, AUN), and gaining global competencies through cross-border cultural immersion. Discussions also covered scholarships facilitated by PAMET USA. The afternoon looked towards the future, with a presentation on the Future Direction of the AASMT, followed by a pivotal talk on Medical Diagnostic Using AI. The event concluded with a comprehensive Panel Discussion on Student Mobility in Action, featuring perspectives from various universities, culminating in the formal Closing Remarks by the Overall Chair.
