In celebration of National Book Week, Iligan Medical Center College (IMCC) successfully held its first-ever Library Week from June 12 to 15, 2026, with the theme “Tulay ang Pagbasa sa Bukas na Puno ng Pag-asa.” The four-day celebration featured a variety of engaging and intellectually stimulating activities designed to promote reading literacy, creativity, and active student participation.
The celebration officially opened with the Opening Program, which was graced by the guest speaker, Dr. Mark M. Alipio, Dean for Academic Affairs. In his message, Dr. Alipio emphasized the importance of reading literacy and highlighted its significant impact on personal growth and lifelong learning.
Day 1 commenced with the Opening Program, followed by the Poster Making Contest, participated in by six departments. The top winners of the competition were CCJE (First Place), CMT (Second Place), and CAS (Third Place).
On Day 2, the Literary Labyrinth took place, consisting of two major events: the Themed Quiz Bowl and the Lexicon Luminary – Spelling Bee. The Themed Quiz Bowl featured three rounds: Around the World, Asenso Iligan, and Library Trivia Kahoot. Six departments competed, with CRT emerging as First Place, followed by CAS, then CHTM. The Lexicon Luminary – Spelling Bee, also contested by the same departments, concluded with CRT as First Place, CAS as Second Place, and CCS as Third Place.
Day 3 featured The Tome Trek: Library Scavenger Hunt, conducted within the IMCC premises, both inside and outside the library. Five colleges participated in this exciting activity, with CCS, CAS, and CRT securing the top ranks, respectively.
The celebration concluded on Day 4 with the Closing Program and the awarding of winners. The highlight of the day was Backpack Day: Mini Fashion Show, where contestants showcased their uniforms and freestyle outfits paired with their stylish and unique backpacks. Ms. Alexa Teves from the CAS Department was crowned Backpack Queen, while Mr. Kharl Kindred S. Sarona from the CSS Department was hailed as Backpack King. The First Runners-Up were Ms. Christine H. Madronial and Mr. Clark Ethan T. Cabili, both from the CHTM Department. The Second Runner-Up titles were awarded to Ms. Xyrel Roan Q. Hupa from the CCS Department and Mr. Mark Christian O. Relatado from CED Department.
Special Awards were also given to deserving participants. The Trendsetter Award was awarded to both contestants from the CHTM Department, the Dress Code Deity Award to contestants from the CCS Department, and the Crowd’s Gem Award to contestants from the CAS Department. All winners received certificates and cash prizes, while Backpack Day awardees, in addition to certificates and cash prizes, were also given tokens and sashes in recognition of their achievements. The Backpack Day event was judged by IMCC’s non-teaching staff: Ms. Jasmin Andrea H. Ballesta from Human Resources, Mrs. Alteza Mae M. Diao, Head of Guidance Services, and Mrs. Alona A. Feraren, Head of the Registrar’s Office.
The entire week-long celebration was made possible through the support and active participation of the Library-Faculty Committee members, students, faculty, and staff of Iligan Medical Center College. The event officially concluded with closing remarks from the Committee Chairman, Prof. George A. Hamoy, who expressed hope that the Library Week celebration would be sustained and further strengthened in the coming years. Indeed, the first IMCC Library Week was a resounding success for the Library Department.
