NSTP BASIC COUNSELING SEMINAR-WORKSHOP

SDG3 SDG4 SDG11

On January 25, 2026, the NSTP Basic Counseling Skills Seminar-Workshop, which was about “Building Basic Counseling Skills for Community Well-Being,” was held successfully in partnership with the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs. Alteza Mae M. Diao, MAEd, RGC, RPM, Head of the Guidance Services Center and Guidance Counselor of Iligan Medical Center College led the activity. About 300 NSTP students showed up, which shows that the school is very supportive of student mental health programs.

The seminar aims to prepare NSTP students with critical basic counseling and stress debriefing skills, particularly in responding to psychological needs during tragedies and emergency situations, with special focus on supporting children. The activity was meant to help students become better peer facilitators by teaching them about mental health, empathy, and good communication. These skills are important for building emotional resilience and improving the health of the whole community.

To make experiential learning stronger, four student groups worked with NSTP facilitators to put on real-life demonstrations and role-playing games during the seminar. These fake counseling situations let people put what they had learned in theory into practice. After each presentation, both the participants and the seminar facilitator gave constructive criticism and professional insights. This helped the students comprehend better and improve their basic counseling skills.
